The Matriarch Council of Clan Mothers is a vital institution within the Confederacy, where women hold significant, political, social and spiritual power. Clan Mothers are responsible for making important decisions regarding the welfare of their clans and community, including nominating and deposing male leaders, advising Chiefs on governance, diplomacy, and community affairs, and counseling the people. They protect the spiritual welfare of the clan and encourage balance among tribal members. The title of Clan Mother is passed down through the hereditary lines, usually to the oldest sister and they are also known as elders, chieftainesses, matrons, and mothers of the tribes. Their influence is rooted in their maternal role, as children belong to their mothers clan, giving women significant influence over family and community matters.
All Federal and State recognized Tribes, Nations, Bands & Clans are encouraged to express their interest in the Clan of Snipe, which is launching soon, by reaching out to admin@onondaganationclanofsnipe.com.
